I liked that it was really just a movie about a kid in school who happens to be a wizard. Later movies get really complicated, and this one felt like a fun family-adventure movie.

This film is by all means a classic, but classic does not mean great. Though the set design and camera work (not specifically cinematography but rather how the camera moved through scenes) and editing was great. That film as a whole does not deserve as much credit as it gets.
The acting is awful and, I mean that in the biggest way possible. And the pacing throughout the movie also makes no sense. The introduction of the film feels forced and like a joke, but not in a funny way, and finally the cinematography is plane and average at best.
What makes me give this 5 stars instead of 2 or 3 though, is the outstanding set design and beautiful scenes which where definitely not made great through cinematography.
If you are going to watch the harry potter series, start from the prisoner of azkaban, as that is the first really good harry potter film.

This film is amazing! Ok, so some of my favourite moments aren't there, but a 2 hours 30 minutes I can understand.

It's also unbelievably scary! I've seen 15 rated horror films that aren't as scary as this! Especially at the end!

So my advice ! GO FORTH, AND WATCH THIS FILM! IT'S BETTER THAN A DAY WITH VIKTOR KRUM.

This is a perfect movie. As a matter of fact, it was almost too perfect. The story (with minor exceptions) is true to the book. It is visually beautiful with good acting. It was like reliving the reading of the book, because it was so much like I imagined it. I can't believe it has the same rating as, say, the t.v. movie "Night Sins" which was a likeable piece of trash, but still trash.
